Dr. Kam Keramatian, MD, FRCPC

  • Where are you from/how did you end up in Vancouver?
    I was born and raised in Iran, and relocated to Vancouver in 2005. My passion for brain research led me to study neurosciences at UBC before starting my residency training in psychiatry.
  • Describe your job/what you do in three sentences or less.
    I work as a consultant psychiatrist at the UBC Mood Disorders Centre, assessing and treating patients with mood disorders. I also work with Dr. Yatham on a variety of neuroimaging and clinical research projects related to bipolar disorder. Finally, I work at the Carlile Youth Concurrent Disorders Centre in North Vancouver, where I see adolescents and young adults who are struggling with mental health and substance use issues.
  • What’s your favourite thing about your job?
    There are many things that I love about my job; I like the fact that I am constantly being challenged to learn more and develop my clinical and research skills. I also find it quite rewarding to get to know my patients and support them in their journey to achieve emotional stability.
  • What do you like to do when you’re not working?
    I swim and go the gym regularly. I also enjoy photography and travelling.
  • What is something you could eat all day?
    Sushi!

Jing Liu, MSc

Where are you from / how did you end up in Vancouver?
I’m from China. I did my master’s in Public Health at UBC and have worked in Vancouver for 3 years after graduation. I like Vancouver, because it’s quite similar to my hometown, Yantai, which is also a coastal city.

Describe your job/what you do in three sentences or less.
I’m a new research coordinator at the Mood Disorder Centre. I’m helping with the EMBED project and CAN-BIND study.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?
My favourite thing about my job is that we are collaborating with excellent researchers all over the world, like East Canada, China, US, and Australia.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Travelling, Reading, Watching Sports (soccer and basketball), Playing Pokers and Mahjong

What is something you could eat all day?
Seafood, Fresh Mango Cake, Spicy Hot Pot
